1st GoSAILING Performance Cup is over, see you all next year!

1st GoSAILING is over. Where to start and how to end this last post?

Firstly we would like to thank JK Pirat for hosting this event and all our friends (among them also world top sailors) and sponsors who helped make it happen. But of course, without you, all brave competitors (some of you coming from really far away), who have participated despite a rainy forecast, this event wouldn’t be carried out.

Friendly spirit among everybody and warm sun rays that have accompanied our fair well have left us determined to make this event a traditional one.

If there is anything you have missed or if you have any suggestion how we can make it even better, just send us an e-mail to info@gosailing.si. Some ideas were already given having dinner yesterday evening.

All the photos in our Picasa Gallery are available also in higher resolution (in case anybody wanted any), but there is more to come – our friend Luka has made a few professional photos which we will post in the coming days (keep checking our www).

And finally, congratulations all for fair sailing and especially to both overall winners (Mitja Margon – MPS and Mirko Paoli – A-Class) as well as to a new National Champion in A-Class (Jure Jerman).
Special prizes in MPS Class were given to a sailor coming from the furthest away (David Forrester) and to a sailor staying in Slovenia for the longest period (Christian Porsche) :) .

19.09.2010 Racing Day 3 – Bora wind was just too strong – Live Feed

13:35 PRIZE GIVING IN A BEAUTIFUL SUNSHINE

What a beautiful afternoon we have. Unfortunately Mother Nature was not generous with nice weather for the past three days, but has at least sent some sun rays to have a pleasant packing and prize giving (click here for photos from prize giving).
And the winners are…
…in Musto Performance Skiff Class: MITJA MARGON SLO 271
and
in A-Class: MIRKO PAOLI ITA 30.
CONGRATULATIONS!

12:05 BORA WIND STILL OVER 25 knt, NO RACING TODAY
RC was constantly checking the wind conditions in the bay, but never returned ashore with optimistic news. The stubborn Bora keeps on blowing and has no intention of dropping. So the PRO announced the same as yesterday: “No racing today, the GoSAILING Performance Cup 2010 is over”.

11:35 WIND STILL OVER 25 knt

Even though the wind isn’t so gusty any more, it is still too strong to start launching the boats. However some sailors decided to test it by themselves and sailed out for a training. In the mean time the sun started to bursting through the clouds and our hope to have some racing today just grew :)

If you want to check how today’s morning looked like, here are some photos.

10:40 WAITING FOR THE GUSTY BORA WIND TO CALM AND HAVING A NICE TIME CHATTING

09:50 COFFEE and DONUTS, WAITING FOR THE SKIPPER’S MEETING
Bora wind still blowing, the rain is gone, the sky is clearing up, forecast: in the afternoon the Bora wind is to decrease.

18.09.2010 Racing Day 2 – No Racing Today

After having a morning coffee and donuts and after heavy rain turned into light one the skiff and cat sailors sailed out at 11.45 and returned ashore at around 13.00 without having sailed not even one race (Bora wind was simply too gusty, too shifty and too strong). They were left with nothin else but to cover their boats and rush for a tasty Pasta with Truffels – see it for yourself.

According to the forecast RC decided to announce “No more racing today” and after having a short but intensive “training” and a nice lunch everybody is looking forward to tomorrow, when the skies should clear up.

Today’s afternoon is ideal for some repair work (like Christian did…with master Paul’s help :) ) and shopping for some warm clothing in the nearby specialized sailing store SAILING POINT, who as a part of a sponsorship offered the competitors a nice discount.

18.09.2010 Racing Day 2 – Waiting for the Bora Wind to stabilize – Live Feed

14:05 PASTA WITH TRUFFELS IS SERVED
Nyami! See you later :)

12:50 RETURNING ASHORE
Bora wind increased up to 30 knt in the middle of the Portorož Bay, boats returning ashore.

11:44 LAUNCHING THE BOATS
MPS and A-Class sailors launching their boats in light rain and gusty Bora wind with Jon in the water helping the guys to have an easy start (thanks Jon!).

11:00 STILL ASHORE, WAITING FOR THE RAIN TO STOP
Everybody dressed in their wet gear and boats ready to be launched, but it’s raining pretty heavily. According to the weather forecast the rain should stop towards noon, so there is no rush in getting wet if we can wait a bit.

10.00 SKIPPER’S MEETING
Skippers Meeting was held in the pleasant company of coffee and donuts. It’s raining, but PRO is ready to signalize the first warning signal at 10.55.

17.09.2010 Racing Day 1 – Results

The first racing day is finished. Everybody seems to be happy with the generosity of the skies (no heavy rain, just right wind speed).

The easier part of day has already started with Pršut, Parmezan Cheese and beer. The discussion is going on about who tacked or gybed when or where and similar stuff. Tasty dinner is coming up soon to refill the batteries for tomorrow’s racing.
